Over its opening weekend (4 April), A Minecraft Movie blew it out of the park, pulling in an estimated $300 million (£233 million) globally. Despite some critics calling it the ‘worst movie’ of 2025, it’s now claimed the title for biggest opening weekend ever for a video game adaptation, overtaking The Super Mario Bros. Movie, according to The Guardian.
The story follows four misfits who get pulled into Minecraft’s Overworld through a mysterious portal and stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Wednesday’s Emma Myers, and The White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge. But one scene in particular is driving fans completely wild. Clips have been circulating on TikTok showing packed movie theatres erupting in cheers, chaos and flying popcorn.
In one scene, Black’s character comes face-to-face with a Minecraft chicken being ridden around a boxing ring. At which point, he yells: “Chicken Jockey!”
The clip was first teased in the official Warner Bros trailer that reached over 1.3 million views, so no wonder the trend is spreading like wildfire. On social media, Minecraft fans are roaring with applause while throwing popcorn everywhere in response to the two words.
For those unfamiliar with Minecraft, a chicken jockey is a rare enemy in the game that comes in the form of a baby zombie riding a chicken. According to a Minecraft-dedicated fandom page, these characters have less than a half-percent (0.4875 percent) chance of spawning, making their sight a big deal to players.
In response to the clips, people have been anything but quiet. “My theatre clapped every time Jack Black name dropped a Minecraft item that was in the trailers, and when he said Chicken Jockey I s*** you not the entire row in front of me gave a standing ovation,” one person shared.
Over on Reddit, one user in a teachers’ forum wrote: “My condolences to everyone hearing “chicken jockey.”” while someone else agreed: “Exactly same happened when i was watching”.But not everyone is following the hype – especially movie theatre staff. Cinemas across the UK and US, including branches of Cineworld and REEL, have now issued warnings to avoid such ‘disruptive behaviour’ at the screenings. “Disruptive behaviour, including taking part in TikTok trends, before, during, or after a screening will not be tolerated,” a cinema spokesperson said. “Anyone causing disruption will be asked to leave, and where necessary, the police will be called.”

Despite critics already calling it the ‘worst movie’ of the year, A Minecraft Movie has smashed the box office, raking in an estimated $300 million (£233 million) globally on its opening weekend alone. It’s now on track to become the best selling video game movie of all time alongside Nintendo‘s The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The comical video game adaptation sees stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa pulled through a portal into the blocky world of Minecraft.
But while it’s proving to be a crowd-pleaser, especially for those who grew up with the game, things have gotten out of hand in cinemas. Videos on social media show food and popcorn being thrown across the audience, with people shouting, swearing and jumping out of their seats.

In one US theatre, the situation got so rowdy that police had to be called in to break it up. Now, the REEL cinema chain is warning that any customers who misbehave will be removed from the cinema, with Cineworld branches in Oxfordshire and Glasgow doing the same.
“To ensure everyone has the best possible cinema experience, we’re increasing our monitoring of screens during performances,” a spokesperson told the Daily Echo.
“Disruptive behaviour, including taking part in TikTok trends, before, during, or after a screening will not be tolerated.”
They added: “Anyone causing disruption will be asked to leave, and where necessary, the police will be called.”
As seen in the trailer, one scene that seems to make the audience go wild is when Black encounters a Minecraft chicken being ridden around a boxing ring by another character, to which Black yells, “Chicken Jockey”.

Multiple clips online show people shouting the line back, cheering and clapping in the theatre when the scene occurs.
“Throughout the whole film, as new characters are introduced, there’s this cheer of recognition,” one father told the BBC.
“My theatre clapped every time Jack Black name dropped a Minecraft item that was in the trailers, and when he said Chicken Jockey I s*** you not the entire row in front of me gave a standing ovation,” one person shared.
“Just got back from watching the movie myself, can confirm everyone in the theatre collectively yelled ‘CHICKEN JOCKEY’ during that moment and it was glorious ngl,” wrote another.
Meanwhile, cinema employees have been using TikTok to urge viewers not to repeat the behaviour. “I’m a theatre employee: by throwing water, popcorn and all that onto people (which many have been doing) yall are making our jobs harder,” commented one user.

Games based on horror movies are certainly no new thing, but you might want to fix your eyes on an upcoming title that’s adapted from a film so terrifying that audience members were left vomiting in the cinema.
From Friday the 13th to Nightmare on Elm Street, there have been many an iconic horror villain that has shook audiences to the core, but one recent series has quickly risen up the ranks when it comes to how horrified audiences have been.
The Terrifier franchise, beginning in 2016 and releasing two subsequently grim films afterwards, stars Art the Clown at the center who will activate coulrophobia in anyone even if they thought that they didn’t have it.
Art has quickly become one of horror’s most recognizable villains (Dark Age Cinema/Bloody Disgusting)
It’s a series known not only for its scares but also its gruesome violence, leading to incidents, as reported by Yahoo, where audience members have vomited and fainted in response to what they’re seeing on screen.
You’ll be glad to know then that Art is making his way into the world of gaming – but it’s in a format that you might not expect.
Terrifier: The ARTcade Game takes Art’s iconic visage and plunges into a devilishly violent arcade-style beat-’em-up akin to classics like Streets of Rage, letting you take the reigns and inflict as much bloody chaos as you wish.
It’s a retro-inspired experience that allows you to join up with three other friends for four-player co-op action, taking on a number of side-scrolling locations with obvious references to the franchise abound.
The social media response has been largely that of excitement, with many in awe at how quickly Art has joined the likes of Michael Myers, Leatherface, and Pinhead in the pantheon of iconic horror villains.
Others have pointed out the game’s eerie similarities to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, as that also adapted another form of media into a side-scrolling beat-’em-up: “We have Scott Pilgrim at home,” whereas another adds “why does it look like a skin for the Scott Pilgrim game?”
Finally, many are even lamenting on the perceived missed opportunity of getting Art as a playable character in other games, namely Behavior Interactive’s Dead by Daylight which already has many of the iconic names previously mentioned.
“Praying for him in Dead by Daylight next” appears to be the general sentiment, while some others have suggested that he’d make a great addition to a Mortal Kombat game too – although I think Art’s fatalities might be too brutal even for an MK game!

The US president gave a three word response when he climbed into the Tesla Model S and it has stirred a huge reaction on social media.
Alongside his ‘first buddy’ Elon Musk at the White House yesterday, Trump was surprised by the tech available inside the electric vehicle.

Sitting in the driver’s seat, Trump said: “Wow… everything’s computer.”
This caused a big response online, with many viewers taking to X, formerly Twitter, to share their reactions.
One user wrote: “Just figuring that out, huh?”
Another said: “Lmaoo Elon keeps asking him to take it for a drive when Trump’s probably not had to drive a car in decades.”
A third person joked: “It’s Tesler now… Get it right!”
A fourth commented: “Hey totally normal to do a car ad with the President in front of the White House. Nothing to see here America. Everything is just as the founders hoped it’d be.”
And a fifth user added: “An advert for a Tesla, by a man who isn’t allowed to drive.”
The president of the United States is technically not allowed to drive and is instead chauffeured to wherever he needs to go.
This is for security reasons and former presidents along with the incumbent president are expected to use their appointed secret service team to handle their travel.
So, it’s not clear what Trump exactly plans to do with his brand new Tesla seeing as he probably won’t be getting much driving done in it.
“But the Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla, one of the World’s great automakers, and Elon’s ‘baby,’ in order to attack and do harm to Elon, and everything he stands for.”
Trump went on to write: “In any event, I’m going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American.
“Why should he be punished for putting his tremendous skills to work in order to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN???”
And Trump doesn’t appear to be concerned about Tesla’s declining market.
He said: “Markets are going to go up and they’re going to go down but, you know what, we have to rebuild our country.”
